February Gaming Wrapup
Well, I wasn’t able to keep the streak up of consecutive months averaging over a game a day. Only 26 games in February. And five of those were at the Harbor Storm tournament I mentioned earlier.
Multiple plays during February:
De Bellis Multitudinis: 5 (four during the tourney, one warmup the day before.)
6 Nimmt!, Coloretto, Niagara, St. Petersburg: 2 each
And that’s it for the multiple plays. Games played once each:
Alhambra, Amazing Labyrinth, Bohnanza, Carcassonne, Carcassonne: The City, Alhambra Expansion #2, Modern Art, Power Grid, San Juan, Trias, Wyatt Earp, ZooSim.
Games new to me this month:
Niagara: Beautiful bits. Played once with 5 people, once with 3. It’s far more chaotic with 3 as the river will be moving faster more frequently. I’m not so sure I liked it with three, but it’s a pretty decent game with five. Nothing earth shaking to be sure, but good fun. And it definitely draws looks.
Alhambra Expansion #2: We played with the camps. I’ve got some definite questions that aren’t addressed by the brief translation available. That said, I like expansions like this that add a little tweak to a game, and using them is like eating tapas - mix and match however you’d like.
Modern Art: Amazingly enough, I’d never played this before. I’m not a huge fan of pure auction games, but damn. This is good. I see why the rankings are as high as they are.
Trias: I think I’m going to have to buy this one. Great mechanic that does a wonderful job simulating the breakup of Pangaea. It’s an area majority game, but it doesn’t play like any other area majority game I’ve tried.
ZooSim: Clever game, good looking. I can see the appeal for kids. Nothing ground-breaking here, but it all works pretty well together.
That’s all for February… March might see some heavier games hit the table. Or, I’m hoping so, at least.
