Projects, Projects, Projects…

by Eric on March 9th, 2005

Well, as part of my slow transition into the Getting Things Done method of keeping track of the important things in my life, I sat down and logged all the active miniatures painting projects I have currently running.

There’s way too many.

I currently have the following armies in various levels of completion, none of them “complete.” All are in 15mm scale unless otherwised noted.

  1. Desert Rats Motor Company for Flames of War. This is a big change of pace for me – never painted WWII figures before.
  2. Later Swiss army for DBM. I started these guys a couple years ago, played them in a 200AP tournament once, and shelved them. With the apparent resurgence of aggressive pike armies in DBM 3.1, it’s time to get these guys finished up.
  3. Medieval German army for DBA. I’m mostly painting these guys up for Jodie to have her own DBA army. The general won’t be painted historically, but in a crest allegedly belonging to her maiden name.
  4. Syrian City-States army for DBM. I don’t own the chariots for this yet, but I’ve been painting up the infantry. I don’t know if I’ll actually ever field these guys, or just sell them off to fund other projects. I need to at least get them finished and based, however.
  5. Generic Medieval figures for DBM, Days of Knights, and other rulesets. These are Rank and File figures I’ve had for a while (I think I got most of them as an Armies of Arcana Fantasy Human army.) They’re rather tall for their scale, but paint up pretty well. The absurdly long poleaxes and pikes have a certain appeal :)
  6. French army for the War of the Spanish Succession. These are 10mm figures. I’ve got 10 battalions (about 140AP) painted up for Ga Pa at this point, and have full plans laid out for a 600 AP French army combined with 400 AP of Bavarians to face up against 600 points of Imperial troops combined with 400 AP of British. That matches up to the proportions at Blenheim rather well.
  7. Adding an English Ally to my Medieval Portuguese army. I need to reconfigure how I use my Portuguese. They’re just lacking something. I’m going to try a new configuration with irregular generals, an English Ally, and a contingent of French kaniggits.
  8. Classical Indian army. These are the guys Alexander fought at the Hydaspes (the battle in the jungle at the end of the Alexander movie – which wasn’t actually fought in a jungle, but we won’t go there, will we?) I’ve got a bunch of infantry painted up, and the theme at this year’s Historicon is Alexander and his enemies. If I’m going to actually do these guys, I’ll need to start on them soon. The elephants should be fun.

Needless to say, I’ve got a lot going on. I’ll probably do the Indians, followed by the Swiss, with occasionally interspersing French and Desert Rats for variety. The other stuff can wait a bit. The problem is that the remains of the Germans and Syrians are sitting on the painting table… do I shelve another unfinished project before trying to finish this one?

I really need to work on this problem… I bounce from one thing to another and never seem to quite finish anything. The curse of being a miniatures gamer, I guess…
