March Gaming Report
Ich.
March was a wasteland of gaming for me. Jodie and I hardly got to play at all throughout the month for various reasons – most due to her being very busy at work, and hitting the sack early at night.
Only 19 games played this month, four of them new. (Though there was also a play of Alhambra with one of the variants from Expansion #2.)
The Multi-plays:
6 Nimmt x3
Balloon Cup x2
Karibik x2
That’s it. Sad, but true.
Games played once each:
Big City (though we botched this one badly), Can’t Stop, Carcassonne: The City, Alhambra (Exp 2), Guillotine, Power Grid, Rosenkonig, Russian Rails, San Juan, Settlers of Catan, St. Petersburg, Ticket to Ride.
Games new to me this month, and a capsule summary:
Karibik – clever, attractive game. About the same complexity/length level as TransAmerica, but I think I like this one better. Will have to pick it up.
Big City – Okay, we REALLY botched this one, but I still got a good feel for how it plays – and I like it. Standard fare of “I want to do three things, but can do only one.” Just wish it wasn’t so expensive…
Can’t Stop – Picked up this classic in a trade with Peter Loop. I’d never played it before, but THIS is what a dice game should be. The press-your-luck factor starts getting REAL interesting after you’re about five or six rolls into your turn…
Rosenkonig – Interesting little “abstract” in the Kosmos 2-player series. I put abstract in quotes because it allegedly has a theme, though you forget about the theme once you’re playing. Not a bad game, not a great game. It would probably take me three or four more plays to decide if I like it or not.
That’s it… April looks like it could get a little better, and it’ll need to as softball starts in May. It’s looking like I’ll have a couple chances to get some meatier gaming in this month – Andy’s coming by on Sunday for a go-round of Brandywine from GMT, and I’m hosting WSS this month. Depending on the number of players, there’s a good shot at Friedrich hitting the table.
Then there’s still Revolution, Roads & Boats, Sword of Rome, and all the other games that take 4+ hours to play… How to get THAT into the schedule? I need a clone.
